Project Information

I've been wanting to build this be for a long time. We bought a new memory foam mattress and that seemed like the right time. I had no plans to follow. Just some ideas in my head and a few notes on a piece of paper. I bought rough sawn cypress from a somewhat local supplier. I bought 16 1×6x8 and 6 1×8x6 all 4/4. This was a lot more than I needed, but I needed to buy enough to make the trip worthwhile. The drawers are 30" wide and 24" deep. This will be a lot of extra clothes storage. Piece made the drawers with the front attached to sides with sliding dovetails and the back joints were lock rabbets. These were firsts for me, so it took a little time, but they turned out good I think. I love the cypress. The finish is sprayed on Minwax polycrylic. Thanks for looking.

Great work Bill, and you work fast…....seems like it was just a week ago you started on this!? Lot's of good learning in this one and I think those sliding dovetails are a good idea….those drawers will last forever….well done…..

Thanks for the nice comments. Good luck with your bed build Don. Feel free to copy anything I did and learn from my mistakes. Jeff I picked up the wood a week ago today. Needed to get this done and move on to the next…

Bill

That is a wonderful job and I have not seen better.

Many years ago my wife wanted to buy a bed like that but it was way to much so we just stayed with a metal frame.

The lady folks can never have enough storage. Well done

Beautifully done, Bill! Took me a minute to realize the 24" deep was front to back NOT top to bottom! I need some caffeine. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Candy. The drawers are about 7 1/4" deep in that way.

Great job! One thing I miss from my water bed in the 80's is the drawer pedestal that those things usually had. I mean, crap is going to get stuffed under the bed anyway, why not have drawers to organize it? And you did it in style, my friend!

Very nice job Bill. I plan on getting back to my shop this winter. I've been spending most of my time on the exterior of my house this summer. Take care.
