This is a small, mid century modern inspired writing desk. I wasn’t working off a plan for this (big mistake) so it took me forever and evolved a few times over the course of making it.
It’s designed to be opened from either side so the cabinet can be on the left or right side.
I didn’t have enough wood to make solid doors so I figured I’d try a slat system.
The top is made from anigre, black walnut and African mahogany.
The cabinet frame is quartersawn African mahogany. The bottom is honey locust (didn’t have enough Mahogany left for that) and one of the doors has 3 walnut stripes.
The legs are English brown oak.
The whole thing has been finished with 2 coats of Danish oil. Still contemplating where to go next with the finishing process.
I’m pretty proud of this as my second “real” piece of furniture. I learned a lot in the process and have a new design to base another project on in the future.
