Hello everyone.
Finally we ended with crops and finally I’m a little more regular with the schedules.
So this weekend I was free and I just started the lathe.
In Argentina we are keen to take “mate”, we take a lot at all times. I had my equipment and my mate (purchased) was very run down. So with that in mind I wanted to try to make one on the lathe.
First take a piece of algarrobo and the result is not entirely accurate but also serves me. Maybe it seems more as a gobletts.
Then take a piece of “quebracho colorado”, I made some new tips and now if the result was most satisfactory. Anyway the quebracho is a very hard and heavy wood, so is the only disadvantage.
Today I enjoy something to drink mate “made by me”.
A big hug to all and until next time.

Quedó muy bueno Gerardo, es un infaltable para el tornero argentino. Aunque yo prefiero el mate de calabaza, y por supuesto, amargo. ;)

I wonder what other wood species I could use to turn one of these. There is no Algarrobo, Quebracho, Palo Blanco, or Calden near me.
Do you think I could use Maple? Don’t know if it grows in Argentina so you might not know what it is.
I lived in Argentina for a while, and I brought mate with me to the US, but how I would love to drink from one I made myself.

Have your say...
