Project Information

Seems like the deer have been feasting on my garden more than we are, for the last several years.
So this year, I researched the issue, and brought out the heavy artillery.
I have a mono-filament line strung around the garden at about 8' high, with various shiny things hanging from it.
Tin pie plates, Walmart bags, tin-foil, etc…
But the real motion is done by this Whirly-Gig, an old Cherry Tree kit that was put together some time ago,
and re-purposed for use out in the garden. In a good stiff breeze, he's wailing away on that piano pretty fast.
We'll see how well he does at keeping the deer away…

Wonder if you could put a bend in the drive-wire and attach some monofilament to it, then run the line across the top of the garden with a few old CD discs on it so when the piano man played, the discs would jump around. The movement would help to thwart deer and birds too.

Steve,

We hope it works for you. Nothing seems to deter our deer. I rigged up a motion sensor to a light and a radio and set it to play our obnoxious local radio station full blast. The deer would just come into the garden and look up each time the radio started again. Yelling at them from the window didn't help either. We had to run outside and chase them out. Now all our gardens are fenced and we spray the plants with rotten eggs to try to deter the animals that crawl over the fence or dig under it. It's a losing battle!!

Let us know how your "piano man" works. At least he's good looking!

I see a deer and think of how well it would fill the freezer and taste during football season. Since it doesn't sound like you can do that I hope your solution gives the hell.
