So after a visit from animal control I was advised that I had to have a dog house for my dogs, even though they are indoor dogs. This was my response to the issue. 2×4 construction sheeted with t111 siding and plywood on the inside. It is 5 feet wide by 4 feet deep for the base. There is a 1 foot overhang on the front of the roof making it 5×5 from the top. It is insulated with R-13. The roof is a true 4-12 pitch with vaulted ceiling. There is a partition wall in the center only because I was told the dogs had to have a separate living space. So even though my dogs will probably never use the dog house, I have one, and it was fun to build.

I agree, good looking dogs! I’ve never heard of a mandatory outdoor dog house rule. But, like you said, you had fun building it. It came out great, too. I think that if the pooches do decide to use it, they will feel right at home. Nice job!

Dave: I’m glad you posted this. I was anxious to see the doggie duplex after hearing you describe it. The dogs have a look that says, yea, right, when do we eat. Great job.
