I was asked to donate an item for the local RMEF auction that will be held in early September. I came up with this 18” x 8 1/2” plaque of their logo and the local chapter information.
I used beetle kill pine, put on three coats of a natural stain, and two coats of a thinned semi-gloss polyurethane. I took a picture of the board and loaded it into the program as the background so I could design around the boards shape and the knot holes. I cut the plaque in my CNC using a 1/4 inch 60 degree V bit and filled in the carving with a walnut stain. I use this process on most items that I want a two tone stain on, if the darker stain spills over onto the uncarved portion of the board, it wipes off easily without causing any discoloring.
