Was contacted by a client who saw my Mississippi shadow box. http://lumberjocks.com/projects/62071 He wanted one in the shape of Alabama. But he wanted it for his retirement so it needed to accommodate a US flag. And he wanted it to stand up. So after some back and forth we agreed on what you see in the 4th picture. 5th one shows the dimensions.

First picture shows the box on the stand. 2nd is the base alone. It is hollow weighted with sand to give the entire thing more stability as the box itself is nearly 28” tall. And as he is from Mobile, I added a small plug to show his hometown (picture 3). The box is made from black walnut and the base and plug are soft maple.

As most of my boxes are shipped to the customer, it was a great thrill to be able to deliver this one personally to him in Mobile (45 miles away). The look on his face was priceless.

Only thing missing is “Sweet Home Alabama” playing when you touch Mobile. Great job.

Birmingham boy here.

This is a very creative piece and a beautiful design. It displays some nice details and fine craftsmanship.
