First speaker build. GR Research provides the speaker drivers and the electronics and you build the cabinet using the provided plans. They sound fantastic.

1 1/8” MDF cabinet, red oak paper backed veneer finished with Minwax PolyShades Classic Black.

Alright… A Kenwood amp.

They look pretty good. That is the first I’ve heard of GR Research, but it looks like they have most of the design work done.

Nice work. I know MDF is often used for speaker enclosures. Is this for cost or is there a benefit to the sound? I was thinking about trying some cabinets with solid oak and/or walnut.

MDF is better than solid wood and ceramic tile is probably the best to reduce cabinet resonance. You do not want the speaker cabinet to add/subtract from the speakers performance.

Speaker makers, that provide cabinet plans for their speakers, have taken resonance into account and designed the cabinet specifically for that speaker(s). In other words do not change the manufacturers suggested design otherwise you may be very disappointed.
