This box was just a prototype to try some different things. I brought it in and it’s been sitting in my office “telling” me to finish it. There are just too many flaws but fortunately most are cosmetic and can be fixed with a little patience and a lot of sanding. Right now I am waiting for Monte to finish up his show and get some wood off to me. I have a corner bookcase to build so while I am waiting I’m gonna re-finish, correct the flaws and see if this can’t be made into a better box. This is kinda the “before” shot. The “after” will follow later.
As you may have guessed, this is some of Monte’s BKP with the wonderful big golden knots. Stain is a light coat of Golden Pecan and finish is a wipe on Poly. Pictures are 1. Box from the outside front, 2. Top of box, 3. Lid open to show tray, 4. Open box with tray removed and divided section in bottom, 5. Back of the box with little brass hinges, and 6. Secret drawer in the back. Holds in good with a tight fit and there is a finger hole underneath to pop the drawer out. Box is 9” wide, 6” deep and 7” tall. No reason for the size, it just worked out like that with the wood I had on hand.
I think this will fix up nicely with a lot of sanding, better flocking and a smoother finish.. Will have better pictures in a week + or -.
