Stairway From Heaven for the Winter 2014 issue of Scroll Saw Woodworking.

I’m swapping out “Castles In The Sky” for “Hark The Herald Angels Sing”, and yes, I did fix the catching wing at the top.

This one just about did me in. It’s a dirty job, but … etc.

First video test at … https://vimeo.com/102669131

Outrageous extravaganza to follow.

PS—Take that, GnarlyErik. :)

Awesome! Can’t wait for the 2014 issue to see the details. Glad to hear and see you figured out your planer issue.

Darn, that’s a lot of wooden mechanisms. Very nice work.

Thanks, John. This one really was a labor of love. I made it for all of my guardian angels. :)

Interesting comment, Allen. There were a LOT more mechanisms before I started to refine it. And then it got simpler, and simpler, and …

I’m still working on the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) thing. :)

Wonderful John! This should be a big Christmas hit. I think a lot of folks will be making it for their kids and grandkids. I would too except all my grandkids are grown up. Now I have to wait for the great grandkids.

Thanks, guys. Your support keeps me going.

Mike: I thought you might appreciate it because it took the same kind of patience and precision that goes into your wonderful inlay work.

My thought was that it could become a family heirloom, Christmas table decoration. It can be disassembled for storage because it’s held together with set screws and rare-earth magnets. And it can be “freshened up” by swapping out the musical movement exposed on the back.

Now all I have to do is learn how to play it. :)

Nice job John. You are now officially the ‘Hark The Herald Angles Sing’ champion. I am definitely jealous!

Erik: I lied with all the mushy words about why I make this stuff. My only motivation is PISSING YOU OFF. :)

Angels are all around us! Love the ‘stained glass’ wings, John! KISS is the best method. I’m still trying to get there, too. Thanks for sharing.

I usually don’t reveal my secrets, Candy, but the “stained glass” came from colored binder dividers that I found at the grocery store.

I’ll send you a copy of the magazine when it comes out. But be warned, Stairway’s not for the faint of heart. :)
