My buddy wanted a shop sign and this idea just came to me. I made a simple frame to size and faced it with Lathe stripping you can get dirt cheap at any lumberyard. I stained it with one coat of gray stain to make it appear aged, then drew all the letters on paper and traced them to the sign, hand painted white with one coat. I then outlined the letters in red. Once dry, I sanded the entire sign with the grain to age the letters. I added the roof by overlapping more lathe and installed the LED kits. Mine is just a white strip and my friend’s was a kit that comes with a remote to change the colors. All was cheap pine construction and cost me about $15 to $20 to build. Most cost was in the labor (hand drawing and painting). I hope you guys like it and please use the idea in your shops.
Led strip kits can be found on ebay for pretty cheap, just make sure you also order a power supply. I usually get a 12v 2a output. Wiring is straight forward – positive and negative.
