...all in my brain.

Construction – EZ Mitre Shell box.

Dimensions – 102 mm square x 51 mm high. 6 mm thick walls ( 6 mm core + 3 mm pattern). On a 6 mm plinth/inner.

Materials – Purpleheart, Pau Amarello, English Yew and Birch Ply.

Adhesives – PVA, CA

Finish – Sanded to 400 Grit and finished with Spray Satin Acrylic

Inspired by the music of Jimi Hendrix and a few beers.

In an effort to bring out the purple in the freshly sanded wood I put this in the window to expose it to the UV rays of our local star. Unfortunately, due to the heat, the wood also dried significantly and the tight joints of the four quadrants of the top are now gaping! (pic 3) May try placing it in the bathroom to help it recover.

Very Nice Box, Martyn! I really like the theme of Jimi with the Purpleheart, PurpleHaze. Have you ever thought of doing one for Beetlejuice? lol

That is not only a sweet box Martyn but a name dear to my heart, I’m a very large Hendrix fan.
I hope the bathroom helps with the top but I still like it just the way it is.
You could even say that it ” put a spell on me”.

Very beautiful and precise design, Martyn. I find many of my wood pieces expand and contract with the seasons. It is still a wonderful piece. I really like it. :)

O So Good :: Jimmy would have loved it him self.. I have a big slab of Purple Heart and read all sorts about UV light reactions. Ive tried a number of things but sure enough left alone for a month it returns to Purple after being cut. It has the most unusual compounds of all timbers.
You should keep an eye on it all along the watch tower.

Nice Work Martyn, You made me go in search of Purple Haze Videos by the Master…
Whenever I look up Jimi, i always end up at this fine old version of Like a Rolling Stone , from San Francisco 1968…
No video, but… Man, remember when Music was actually Musical!

I always enjoy seeing your latest creations, Martyn. Problem is, they are too few and far in between for me, these days. I’m due to retire soon, and when I have the time, I will be making reproductions of a some of them. In main, the Mondrian box. That is just too cool. People will be seeing them here eventually, with full disclosure of my muse.
