Presidential Seal Shadow Box

This is a retirement shadow box for a Navy service member who was assigned to White House duty for three years. He provided me the image.
The walnut wheel measures 30 inches inside diameter. Behind the wheel there are 26 pieces that make up the rays behind the shield. Mitering them to come to a complete circle was quite the chore. The 50 stars are aspen. Many hours were spent spacing them evenly. Check and re-check. No one was allowed to even breath around it until the stars were glued.
Then came the eagle. It is on an 8 inch plaque. A little small I guess. It was shrunk to fit all his military awards etc.. around it. The last time I counted parts for the eagle I lost count at 150. At this point another 5, 10 or 15 just didn’t matter any more. Seven different woods were used for this image. All woods are natural color.
When it was all said and done it was a fun project for me. I enjoyed it. Hope you do to.

Chief Petty Officer to Warrant Officer – Very well done on the shadow box. Many thanks to the member for his service. Selection process for duty at the WH is very competitive. So further honors are due there also.

Wow that’s an amazing shadow box! I can only imagine how many hours you’ve got into that thing, but it’s beautiful, and I’m sure he really appreciates it!

Great job Ken…..I made 5 of these last night with my new Carvewright……hahaha. How many hours do you think you have in this one…..like I always say, your work is art that should be in a museum.
