It was just getting at me after I finished this prototype last night, that I really needed a beer or beverage holder. So I made one this morning. I think it will do just fine.

This is a prototype of the 8 adirondack chairs I was asked to make for my son’s frat for their two porches. I go the plans from Woodcraft, here in Boise. They will be made out of 2×6 lumber and finished somehow, not sure what yet since it is douglas fir. I saw a few pictures of these on some earlier posts and thought I would try to make them beefy like one other lumber jock did, sorry can’t remember who that was. But it is very sturdy and hopefully will last the frat several years.

I do think I need to make a beer or glass holder in the arm rest somehow, I will try to figure that out this weekend maybe. Gonna try to knock them out in the next few weeks so they can have them when school starts , then I will repost when they are all done. Gonna try to make a few tables with the rest of my lumber.

I already got a few more orders for the chairs using some of my reclaimed redwood I came across this summer. I think i am going to make those out of the 2×6 redwood boards also. It just makes them so much more sturdy from the ones I have seen in the stores that are make out of junk wood, at a price over $200.

As always thanks for looking, and any suggestions for finishing the chairs in some kind of clear finish would be appreciated.

Tim

Well the mock-up looks good, and I agree on the need for a cup holder. Make ‘em heavy and sturdy, because those frat boys can get a bit rowdy at times!

Oh, and what about putting a logo of the University on them? Or at least the frat letters.

I have a wood burner that my son is going to burn some thing on the back of each chair. He is more of an artist type than I am, so each chair will be marked somehow.

Great stuff. They look sturdy enough for at least one frat party.
I agree with @ducky911 on making the beverage holder a swing out and maybe add to both sides.

You might even add large wheels so the frat-rats could have races! ;-) The possibilities are endless.
