So this project was a combination of several firsts for me. The inlay was made with my scroll saw (first time), the box joints (first time) are the first real joints I have made aside from miter/butt joints. The bottle stoppers are made with Tru-Stone (first time). The box is made with Padauk and cherry. I need to work on my box joints. They were pretty tight but they could be better. I also need to trouble shoot my TS and BS. Something is slightly out of square. Not enough for the average person to notice but it is obvious to me.

spudhogg: Yes the lettering is inlaid. The box top is Cherry and the inlay is Padauk. I used double sided tape to secure the inlay blank on top of the box top and set the scroll saw table angle to about 3-4 degrees and then make the cut. If I had to do it over again, I would have set the angle to about 2 degrees so the inlay would set in deeper.

It looks great to me and remember that No matter how good you make it you will always be the one to see the errors in it even if no else can.

Have your say...
