swivel lid box

This is an oak and walnut box with a split top swivel lid. I got the plans from a book i recently just got called “Basic Box Making” It is a great book filled with a lot of useful tips and some pretty cool projects. I finished it with tung oil and a coat of wax.

Nice job on this and a unique twist on the top. Love the wood combination. Looks great.

Ashe, I used 8th inch steel dowel rod. I only glued them into the lid so they could swivel. I also used rare earth magnets to help keep the lid closed. I also used some wax on the rod so it could swivel easier.

Thanks Michael,if you lift the lid straight up will the lid slide out off the box with the rod attached?

Yeah both halves of the lid will come off if you lift them straight up. It’s a very snug fit so it doesn’t come off very easily.
