Constructed of Poplar solids and Poplar veneer core plywood.
Tinted with toner, stained and sprayed with Precat Laquer
I found a pic of this piece that I had taken just as I was getting ready to disassemble it and start the finishing process. I thought I had a bunch of pics of the construction process but I was wrong.
Thanks everyone for the great comments. This is one awesome website community.

Beautiful job. Do you have any more pictures to show the detail? Maybe some construction photos?

Thankyou for the positive comments. To answer Scott, I do have pictures of this piece during the construction process but I’m not sure where to post them since I can only post 3 pics here.
any suggestions?

Try a blog. I have not created one, but most seem to have inline photos.

Gregg, this is a beautiful surround. It would compliment any room’s decor. The raised panels give the piece a lot of visual interest. You did an excellent job on the finish as well. Poplar can be a challenge but it looks so much better with a natural finish on it as opposed to paint.
Well done!!
If you want to create a blog detailing the construction process here are the instructions on how to post pictures to one.
Hope it helps as I would find the construction blog to be an interesting post. I have one of these on my to-do list (a promised Christmas gift several years ago that I still occasionally hear about). I see some interesting ideas with this project.

Superb! I too am in the process of building an entertainment
center around my fireplace. I see some things that you did that I
would like to incorporate into mine, if that`s ok.
Very nice job.
Thanks for sharing it with us.
