Free-Form Box Within a Box

July, 2014—This started out as a chunk of glued-up wood that came out of a drawer when making a band saw box. I decided to reshape is slightly and made a small box out of it. Then with the insides removed, I made a box out of that. So, the smaller one perfectly fits into the larger one.

The inside of the smaller box is darker as a consequence of burning from a dull band saw blade. Which really puzzled me because the blade was brand new, just out of the shrink-wrap. That will teach me not to switch brands! I’ll be going back to the Carter blades that have worked so well for me.

Soup can just for scale in the photo.

I like these a lot. What was the name brand of the bad blade? I have never tried Carter blades.

Art, use flocking for the inside to hide the burn…I take it you like Carter blades…I have not tried them. I think we all have seen the video about sharping the BS blade…even a brand new one cuts much better and faster after being sharpened

Thanks all for the nice comments.

Donna – Thank you for your sound advice off-line. I appreciate it.

HawaiiLad – Good idea about the flocking. I have not heard of resharpening band saw blades. Next time I’m up at Woodcraft I’ll ask them about it. They do a great job sharpening my table saw blades.
