Thought I would post this old project I made a couple of years back since I am going to start on a new Sawbench. This one was from an article in Popwood and it has worked very well for me. It makes hand sawing so much easier and I use it as much as possible. It takes only a half sheet of plywood, some screws and a couple of hours in the shop. So easy to make, even an idiot like me could do, doh! even an idiot who messed up the design and put the steps on the wrong direction, but it still works great, and yes it was my wife who pointed out the mistake.
The new Sawbench is the one from Woodworking Mag, I just picked up the wood today and will hopefully post completed pics by the weekend.

Forgive me, but how does that make sawing easier? Any shop tips that are out there I would love to add to my tool box of knowledge. (Man, that kinda sounds chessey. Tool box of knowledge? Again, forgive me…)
Thanks.

Chris, it made hand sawing easier for me by forcing me to cut at the proper angle and height. Before I would just use saw horses or my benchtop to cut boards and wonder why hand sawing was so hard. But after reading lots of material about sawing I found that my posture, angle of attack, type of saw and how I secured the board were all wrong. I learned a lot from the editor’s blog at woodworking magazine by Chris Schwarz, I am a big fan of his work and teachings. The sawbench changed the way I cut boards. I have provided a link where Chris shows how to use the newer sawbench that I will be starting soon (there are also free plans on the website as well). In practice the new sawbench works just like the sawbench in my post, I do plan making a small change to the newer sawbench. I am going to raise it up just a few inches to match the height of my current sawbench.
I don’t dread sawing anymore like I used to, it is very easy now that I know what I am doing.
