Well I’ve managed to do the most of this project, all I have to do now is coat it AND figure out what to do with it. I’m thinking just to leave it as a wall plaque. It started out as the idea for a box lid but I didn’t like the finished carving left as plain wood. Once I started painting, it really started to come alive and look so much better. So then the idea of a box lid was becoming less than ideal.
As you can see in the pictures I had some help with this project. Our chickens had babies but weren’t ready for the mothering stage so I brought them inside and since it’s winter here I have been keeping them warm ! No I don’t nurse them ALL of the time but this day was particularly cold.

Wow… love them colors! I agree, it’s not a box lid. I like the idea of a wall hanging. Thanks for sharing! :)

Great job! What is the size? Looks like Dogwood flowers – I could see this as an inset panel on the front of a larger chest or cabinet – or maybe a set of these as a “Spring Summer Fall Winter” grouping on a wall.
Thanks for posting.

Thanks guys.
Joe the paint is Jo Sonja’s paint so it’s no good for exteriors. (And no ! I still haven’t hung the coat rack up ! )
The measurement is approx 16cm X 16cm
Leadhearder – I too thought they were dogwood roses however when I Googled them to get colouring a etc. I noticed that dogwood roses have 4 petals and not the three as in this. However I could not really find something similar so I went with the colouring’s of the Dogwood roses. (Artists prerogative !

Outstanding carving, as always, although I prefer it without colour.
