Half-dovetail box.

I received a Veritas dovetail saw for a Christmas gift this last year, so recently I have been spending quite a bit of time teaching myself how to dovetail. Last week I was making a little box and had it half way assembled when my wife came into the shop. She asked me if I was making some sort of puzzle and thought it looked really cool. So I sat the half assembled box down and gave it a second look. With the pins pushed half way into the tails it gives a great visual of how the joinery works and is an interesting design detail. The lid is arched and has two large dovetails cut in it, leaving a thin strip to grasp.

The box is made of hard maple with a walnut accent.

Like the design… it really is eye catching.

Nice incorporation of the dovetail shape on the lid to tie the concept together.

Love it. It looks like it just contained a dynamite explosion.
This takes exposed joinery to the next level.

Very unique. I love the lid, but I think your idea with joinery works well with this box too.

The dovetails are a real eye catcher for sure, they make this box a standout. Think I gotta try this, thanks for the design tip.

When its right, it’s right. Sometimes less is definitely more. Really love the look and the textural feel I get seeing it. Almost Escher’esque

Very creative, I like the lid. The larger dovetails really help it work well too. Now just push it together a bit more the way it’s supposed to be … :)
