A friend ask if I could make him new scales for his knife.
Black walnut and maple… inlayed with egg shell.

Jim,
Is that actual eggshell?
If so, how come I don’t see the curvature of the shells?

Jim,

OK, it’s real eggshell.
How come it looks so flat?
Do you have a trick to flatten the shell?

Thanks for the interest Don. I first carved the teeth and letters out then micronized the shell in a blender. Filled the carved areas then used CA glue to bond the shell. Then I simply sanded and finished.

Howdy Jim! Beautiful knife! I’m going to have try your eggshells on something, maybe a cane? Clever idea!

Hey Jim ~ I saw this on your Facebook page and I like the carving…. and the effect of the eggshell. I have also tried the eggshells in a blender (chopper) sort of thing. A few years back I played with mixing the eggshells with acrylic resin…. clear and pigmented.

The attached pic is the results. The brown eggshells under the black disc is actually one whole ‘panel’ where I used the clear resin.

I had tried once to do a ‘walking on eggshells’ handle on a spoon and I messed it up quite a bit.. hope to try again one of these days.

Your carving skills keep getting better and better!

BTW… Happy Anniversary !!!

Hey thanks Terry….your idea with the resin looks very cool.
Can’t wait to see what you do with it.
I mess up all the time…lol.
