Starting to Work on a screen door for my back porch. Had some cypress wood that I had picked up in Atlanta Ga. to make Adirondack chairs. But had a more pressing project for a screen door. Looking to make it with a craftsman style look. I have some Marin finish for the final coat and will put epoxy on the end grain to discourage rot. will be making the screen panels nest.

Nice project. It looks craftsman style to me.

I need a new screen door. I like your design. Is this the kind of cypress that stands the weather well?

Yes, Cypress is a good out door wood. It is light like pine and weathers nicely. It can be kind of soft on the long grain. I had 2 or 3 spots were it tour out but nothing bad. It can be kind of splintery until you sand it. have not had a chance to to do much finishing with it. For now i have put 2 coats of Boiled Lend-seed oil on it. I will make notes and update with photos as i get further along.

Have your say...
