Project Information

This is a display case for those souvenir teaspoons. My Mom has a huge collection of them, so I made this for her for her 70th birthday.

I got the plans for this from and old issue of Wood magazine (#35 June 1990). The wood is all solid cherry. I resawed a piece of 4/4 to make the book matched back panel which is 1/4" thick. Overall the piece is about 20" x 14". I used Bruso hinges and pull. For a latch, I countersunk two rare earth magnets in the base and the door.

The door has cherry splines to strengthen the miners, and the carcass was assembled using dominos instead of dowels. It was my first real project after nearly two years out of the shop, and my first ever cabinet of its type.
