Hello everyone I built this chessboard I got the idea from Steve Ramsey woodworking for mere mortals. He built it on you tube and I just followed along . I built two this one is the second the first one I use dovetail on the draws with my drovetail jig. I didn’t like the way the draws came out with the dovetails I think it had to do with the draws are not wide enough. On this one I used the locking Rabbet joint and I think it came out better then the dovetails thanks for looking.

Very nice. I like it a lot. What kind of wood is the thin black border on the board?

yeah, i was going to ask the same thing: what is the black border made from? i just made a chess board myself, but i’m stuck on how to finish the edges.

I have seen that same video by Steve Ramsey and plan on making one myself. You’ve done a great job. Congratulations

Great job Woodman. Nice classic finish. Also love how the drawer joints came out.

I agree with you on the drawer joints. I am about to make another one, and I will follow you on the locking rabbet joints

I also made one after SteveĀ“s video. A quite challenging project for me since it was my first one.

In that video Steve looks like a very serious man, I wonder what happened :))

I blogged this story when I joined LJ

Take care
