I’m a sportswriter and a few years ago, I was able to get my hands on a pair of original, 1953-install chairs from the old Milwaukee County Stadium. They sat out on my deck and in my storage unit for the last two years but armed with a new miter saw, sander and some other gadgets – plus, having grabbed a pile of leftover studs from a construction project in my neighborhood (not stolen; they were left for the trash) – I figured I’d try and throw something together.

Again, I’m still getting the hang of precise measurements – especially miter angles – and it may be a little overkill, but for all intents and purposes, it does the job and I can now sit in the same splinter-inducing discomfort I remember from my childhood.

Looks like it does the job. Find a can of green and make it look just like the chair itself and you’re in business. I think it’s very cool.

I was debating what to do with them. Originally, I was going to go green to match but then I thought I would stain them to match the other wood trim in my condo. I think I’m leaning toward just weather-sealing them and letting them “fade to grey” to kind of match the old concrete stands of the stadium.
