If you are familiar with the Oregon Coast, this is a replica of Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach, Oregon. It so happens that the spalted wood at the lower part of the front looked like Haystack rock to me. So, I cut out the form also in the shape of Haystack as well as the drawer.

The spalting below haystack also seemed to emulate tide pools and currents at the beach as well as other coastal images.

The wood is Spalted fiddleback Dogwood with layers of alder, pine and oak. The dimensions are 9”W x 7-1/2”H x 4-3/4”deep.

The finish is Arm-R-Seal and then paste wax. The sanding was done with 1200 grit and 4/0 steel wool.

The back of this box has a push hole to enable the drawer release.
