My wife needed a small step stool to help her getting into our new bed. This was the result after several design attempts to over build\analyze what was needed. No power tools were harmed in the completion of this stool, just hand saws, planes and chisels. Made from Red Oak stained with Spanish Oak to match our existing bed and then Tung Oil, but I am thinking of putting on some wipe on poly.

I know dovetail joints are strong, but what happens if the top slides to the side with weight on it? Would it collapse? The only reason I ask is because if that ever happened to me I could see myself catching a beating from the little woman…

Quint, thanks for the laugh and I should have mentioned that the joints were built very tight, I used no glue.
I had planned to put in a stretcher btwn the sides, but I weigh 255LB and did the Richard Simmons happy dance on this stool with no movement, so I am not worried, besides, I have good medical insurance :)
