A friend asked if I could build something to house a preserved rose from his brother’s casket wreath. It was contained on a small wooden plate covered with a glass dome. Here’s what I created: Shadow box
The out side boarder is bleached pine framed with mahogany; maple burl frames the glass and koa was coopered for the inner box. There are two hidden LED lights, top and bottom. A micro switch and battery pack was also installed. In dim ambient light, the upper yellow LED provides a back wash on the koa and the bottom red LED hits the rose—popping it out of the case.

Really nice!!! Thanks for posting this. The lighting does a great job of highlighting the rose and the wood.

Your work enhances the feeling of reverence memorializing your friends brother. It’s sometimes hard to stay “out of the way” of the main subject, but I think you not only accomplished that but focused our attention where it needs to be! Well done!
