This box is made out of some spalted/worm nibbled oak I found in my fire wood stack. I just got a 14” delta bandsaw and was able to resaw the sides from a couple of logs. I’m running out of this stuff and I want to use it for all it’s worth! This is my second box with the stuff, and I’ve made a couple pens with it also.
This is also my first time doing handcut dovetails (more than two pins) and boy is it time consuming! I imagine it will go quicker and quicker the more I work on it…
The lid, bottom and feet are made out of a piece of japenese maple….I think. Since I’m young and strapped for cash they were recycled from an office desk I found by the side of the road. The tabs on the lid are made from sapele.
I finished it with one coat of shellac, and then two coats of rub on satin poly.
Thanks for looking!
