Cheshire Cat: If I were looking for a white rabbit, I’d ask the Mad Hatter.
Alice: The Mad Hatter? Oh, no no no…
Cheshire Cat: Or, you could ask the March Hare, in that direction.
Alice: Oh, thank you. I think I’ll see him…
Cheshire Cat: Of course, he’s mad, too.
Alice: But I don’t want to go among mad people.
Cheshire Cat: Oh, you can’t help that. Most everyone’s mad here.
[laughs maniacally; starts to disappear]
Cheshire Cat: You may have noticed that I’m not all there myself.

I’ve loved Alice in Wonderland since I was a kid – especially the scene with the Cheshire Cat, so I thought I would cut a portrait of it.

I found and old litho of the cat and designed the pattern from it. The lettering was taken from another scene I found online.

The wood is 1/4” thick poplar and measures 7×10 inches.

A soak in lemon oil and a thick backing of felt finishes the piece.

While a bit simple, there were enough tricky spots that made cutting this one quite fun!

Cheers!

Nice.
I can not imagine cutting that. It would take me a gazillion hours, and then probably crack.
Hats off to you.

That’s pretty cute and very nice scroll saw work.

One of my favourite books growing up! You have captured the Cheshire Cat’s expression perfectly. Beautifully done.

Looks great and you managed to capture the devilish expression on the cat’s face quite well.

Now we all know where the expression comes from.

Good work
