Cheshire Cat: If I were looking for a white rabbit, I’d ask the Mad Hatter.
Alice: The Mad Hatter? Oh, no no no…
Cheshire Cat: Or, you could ask the March Hare, in that direction.
Alice: Oh, thank you. I think I’ll see him…
Cheshire Cat: Of course, he’s mad, too.
Alice: But I don’t want to go among mad people.
Cheshire Cat: Oh, you can’t help that. Most everyone’s mad here.
[laughs maniacally; starts to disappear]
Cheshire Cat: You may have noticed that I’m not all there myself.
I’ve loved Alice in Wonderland since I was a kid – especially the scene with the Cheshire Cat, so I thought I would cut a portrait of it.
I found and old litho of the cat and designed the pattern from it. The lettering was taken from another scene I found online.
The wood is 1/4” thick poplar and measures 7×10 inches.
A soak in lemon oil and a thick backing of felt finishes the piece.
While a bit simple, there were enough tricky spots that made cutting this one quite fun!
