Shortly before the school year ended for my kids school, I noticed the school library was using a variety of things to prop open the door. When I asked, the previous door stop (random chunk of angled off cut wood) had wandered off.

I needed practice so made these out of so scrap oak I had. Evidently they have been well received. I think if I do anymore the style of the one on the left is easier to pull out.

Nice. Did you turn both handles on the lathe and then cut them diagonally?

Yep. So they ended up with two. The turning blank was about 10-12” long and I think around 2-1/4” : 2 1/2” square. I should have taken more pictures. Since they are fairly distinct I am hoping they stay around for a bit but if not they are quick to make.

What a noble undertaking, and they look sweet.

Minor point perhaps, but are you sure the local fire code allows the doors to be propped open?

Since I am replacing an existing one that wandered off and a variety of random objects used since, not really my concern. It’s a school and these are exterior doors. Often they (and classroom doors) are propped open during open houses or other events at the school such as book sale fund raisers.

They look just like they belong in a library, wonderful gift
