I just got a new planer so I wanted to test it out. I had some scrap pallet wood and ran a piece through it. I wanted to at least make something out it so I made this simple pencil holder. Nothing fancy.

This scrap cut-off with a hole drilled in it is what I was using before:

It kept falling over, so I replaced it with this new pencil holder.

Does anyone know what kind of wood this is? I think it’s oak, but I’m not sure. The little base is made out of some scrap poplar.

Finished with a few coats of lacquer.

Well, whatever wood it’s made out of, it looks great. And practical, too!

Looks like Oak to me. The one you were using before looks like Pine
