Daughters wedding arch

This is the wedding arch I made for my daughters wedding. It was the backdrop for the ceremony. I used good old yellow pine and “aged” the wood by beating it with bags of screws, randomness with various blunt objects and the an off and on with golden oak to fill the newly formed dings, dents and holes. I then used weathered grey as an accent. I put small amounts of the grey on a sponge pad and wiped it on a rag until it was almost dry and sort of dry rubbed it over the golden oak finish. Turned out pretty good. I used clevis pins to secure the wings hinges to the main panel to allow for ease of setting up and taking down.

Great job! and I really like the fact that it is portable – most that I have seen are too bulky to move. May I suggest a miniature version that can be used as a picture frame for a future anniversary gift?

Thanks for posting.

Nice job Lee. I’ve long been perplexed by this “distressed” look, at the same time I fully appreciate how things get dinged up over time and use and still are so just right and just need to be left alone. Not everything has to be perfect. That’s almost a contradiction of my German upbringing. I like the look. Congratulations! Having a daughter get married is a big thing for a Dad.

Great piece, and a wonderful reason to have to build something from the shop!
