First Pen

My first pen.

Brown Mallee Burl with a Gold & Gunmetal Mesa kit.

Finished with General Finishes Woodturner’s Finish and buffed with a little beeswax and a cotton rag. (The smell of CA sometimes gets to me, so I’m a little reluctant to try a CA finish yet.)

Someone else turned and sent me the bowl that is holding the pen for display, so I’m not going to take any credit for that.

NICE! I like the Mesa kit, just turned another yesterday! I have yet to try the CA finish myself, I will probably glue my hand to the lathe!!! Have fun turning—-

Good looking pen, and the finish is really nice.

For a first pen that is an absolutely superb job.

Sure looks a lot nicer than my first pen… and my second, and my third…

I use the CA thin and it does sometimes sting my eyes. I just step away from it for a minute, maybe fan a little air to clear the fumes. I like the quick finish and it really does shine up nice when I sand up to 2000 grit. But then, I like the finish on your’s too. I haven’t worked with Mallee Burl yet, but it looks fantastic!

Very nice first pen. I took me a while to get as nice of a shine as you already have. I’ve been using EEE and shellwax cream. I then put on a quick coat of Hut liquid wax (I could probably skip the shellwax). The shine is as good as CA, imho, but I’m not as confident in its durability.
