This was a father’s day gift for my dad that was really simple to make. It’s a bottle opener that sticks to the fridge with magnets, and also has 4 magnets below the opener that catch the bottle cap as it falls so it sticks to the wood.
Neodynium magnets (10)
Cast aluminum bottle opener
I used a walnut board which was a bit too heavy for this. I wouldn’t have had to use 6 magnets to get it to stick to the fridge if I had used something lighter. I rounded over the edges and used two coats of clear shellac as the finish. Shallow holes were drilled with a forstner bit at the corners and top center to recess the magnets that let it stick to the fridge and they are completely covered in epoxy. 4 bottle cap catching magnets are as deep inside the wood as I could go without going through the front of the board and are immersed in epoxy.
My dad loved it.
