Dragonfly Carving

Carved from Black Cherry found in my dad’s woodpile and some left over pieces of Curly Maple. The Curly Maple kind of make the wings shimmer in the light, which isn’t captured very well in the photo. I also glued a rare earth magnet onto the bottom.

[edit]
Added a new photo with another coat of full strength spar varnish (previous two coats were diluted 50-50 mineral spirits I had sitting around from other projects as a wiping varnish). Should add that it is about 4.5” by 7” in size.

Thinking of making more of a similar nature to sell for work charity drive, any opinions on a fair price (for charity) that people would consider paying for this type of carving? Also will be doing other insects such as butterflies, grasshoppers, beetles, etc., all done as fridge magnets.

Nice work! Looks wonderful.

I love dragon flies. I got a great photo of an emerald green one last year, but I lost it when my hard disk crashed. Luckily I got another one last week, but not as beautiful as the first one.

I love dragon flies too, real ones and your carving. It’s hard to tell without a reference, but is this life-sized or larger?

Adorable! Nicely executed! I love dragon flies too and just saw several along with a damsel fly among my water plants.

I’m pretty much on the fence when it comes to dragon flies, but I do love creative and well executed carvings. Great little carving!

Really neat. You have a winner, there.
No idea where to price it. Since it’s an auction, the buyers will tell you.
Great idea to make a series of insects.
