Spruce Burl Boxes

Project by Alaskancraftsman posted 421 days ago 521 views 2 times favorited 10 comments Add to Favorites Watch

This was a spruce burl I recieved from my grandfather, and decided it would make some nice boxes. Using a bandsaw, first I cut the sides, then the bottoms, the tops were cut last, also forming the hinge. I then used a dremel with a carving bit to hollow out the underside of the lids, aiming for a consistent thickness. Finish was a spray-on clear coat. Lids are hinged on 3/8” dowel, and capped with burl scrap from inside the boxes. Hope you enjoy.

I wish I could type in the wonder on my audible “Wow” when I saw these. It amazes me how people can “see” into these pieces of wood that others would just toss away.

Thanks for sharing.
