I built this bench last fall. My clients wanted to make the existing mantle/fireplace more of a focal point for the room, and make it look like it had always been that way. So, we designed the new pieces to match the style of the original trim work in the house. The base of the bench opens up to store the Tivo and cable box, and a flat screen TV is now installed on the wall above the bench (The first picture is the “before,” and the second two are “after”).

I like it, it complements the fireplace nicely

The built in bench looks a lot better than the TV and stand. Nice work.

That is a nice addition to the home’s decor that brings the fireplace into focus. It is a vast improvement over the stand that was being used. You managed to match the addition to the existing woodwork well.
Out of curiosity do you need to open to the doors to access the video components with the remote?\
