I built this staircase for a client in 2007. The work also included trimming out a large upstairs addition, built-in cabinets throughout the house, and various other tasks as they arose. My client was doing a lot of the work himself, and we worked together a lot of the time. Everything was made on site from scratch, with the exceptions of the balusters and the handrail, which were purchased and assembled by us. It was the biggest project I had done until that point, and a great learning experience.

Matt, I enjoy the look of bc. I put down over 1000 feet in my home as well as using it on stairway and landing similar to what you have done here but I also put in bc risers. I really like the look of the skirt and handrail that you put in as well as the other trim and cabinetry. I am a firm believer that you simply cannot put too much wood into a home and really enjoy seeing projects like this. By the way jatoba is a gorgeous wood but I am sure that you found it was hard on the blades.
Thanks for the post. I enjoyed seeing this one.

Beautiful job Matt. Even though it’s quite hard, I like working with jatoba. You can be very proud of this.
Thanks for posting it.

Beautiful, like the bend in the side board leading upstairs.
