So you don’t think that I’m just laying about enjoying my new retirement status, thought I would keep you up to date on the “to do” list. Nothing fancy, just a garden decoration bench that the wife found in a decorating book she picked up in 1998 and put a post-it on it (16 years isn’t so long, is it?).

The bench is 48” wide, 17” deep and 47” tall. The material is rough cut Incense Cedar fencing boards joined with pocket screws and nails. The “roof caps” on the bird houses is pine edge guard molding. 1 1/2 days in the shop: finishing will be left up to the wife.

To give credit due, the design is by Jeff McWilliams.

That’s one cool bench. should be a great addition to any garden. What kind of insect is that sitting on it?

Whimsical and useful! I love it! The birds may think there’s a real house behind the facade, then it will be time to build bird houses. I like the natural wood myself. Paint would be cute and protective, but not necessary in my eye.

Here’s an impractical idea: These could be the prototypes that the birds could choose the model they desire. If you put little number tags (#1, #2, #3, etc.,) on these then the birds can take the tags and place them where they want that house built. Difficulty will be what you ask for payment. Maybe just occupancy and a song? }:)~

Nice project!
