Stepstool & Bench

I have a little friend (my close friend’s son) who was in dire need of a stool and bench combo. After a long day of eating mashed peas and carrots, sometimes he just needs to take a break. I saw this design a few months ago and thought that it would look great in walnut. I had a nice wide piece that I was setting aside for a special project like this – so off to work I went. The walnut has both heart- and sapwood, so there’s lots of contrasting colors and grain. The finish is a poly and oil blend. Baxter, my dog, tried to claim it first but I had to break his heart and give it to its rightful owner.

Excellent work! Nothing makes a photo better than a happy client. Looks like you’ve pleased the customer.

Also, excellent and stable design on that step stool. So often an afterthought.

Looks like both the primary and secondary customers are satisfied. Nice work and a common sense design.

My husband still has a bench like this from when he was a kid, and my 18 mo son loves it now. Nice job!

Awesome! I built this in cherry a bit over a year ago and the boys still love it. It looks great in walnut. Watch those little toes putting the back down. Great work.

Thanks everyone. It was a really great project that I’m sure I’ll do again. Cherry sounds like a good option for next time.
