Just finished this new Hemlock knot woodcarving. Most people have no idea what a knot really is…. Is it a dark brown, round imperfection in a Pine board? Well kinda’. The round imperfection in the the board is a cross section of a knot. Anywhere a branch meets the base of a Pine or Hemlock tree, a knot is formed. When the tree dies and decays back into the earth, the only resilient parts left are the pitch- filled, uniquely shaped knots. This carving is from a Hemlock knot- ya dig?

I dig josh. Thanks for the explanation. In fact, if it were not for your explanation, I’d have almost nothing to say.

Your carving is an absolute masterpiece.
