My wife has a thing for animals! All animals! I came home from work one day and found 4 baby ducks living in a small cage in the garage. My first thought was ”%$&@!”.
So this became my next “project”!
First-they’ve got to get out of the garage and they really need to be protected from the night time predators. Thus became the plans for “the duck house”.
It’s got wheels so we can move it around the yard (and this is a definite requirement with ducks…there’s a reason they are called “foul”)
With all of my complaining about the ducks, it actually came out pretty nice. My wife painted the “front door” to the coop and I bought some of those cheap, cedar fence boards (the dog eared kind) from the Borg and resawed them into cedar shake shingles.
Well, the ducks seem to like it!
Now back to the shop for some real “important” woodworking!

Dennie,
That in one ultra cool pen. I really like the portable aspect of it.

Now get back to the serious work. You’ve got a possum den to build.

M R Duks…C M Wangs?

That probably doesn’t make any sense, unless you already know the joke.

Nice duck hut, by the way.

I’m glad you explained it, hotncold. I have to confess though, that I’m from Southern California. The most time I ever actually spent in the South was when I went through basic school at Quantico Virginia. A friend of mine, who was from the South, told me that joke many years ago (and used a great accent to tell it).

TheFridge – “I’m assuming they wouldn’t be the good eatin type?”

I casually mentioned something about that to my wife and based on her reaction you’d have thought I was talking about Bar-B-Qing one of the kids!!
Pretty sure we’ll never know…

Nice looking duck house.
Do they get outings to the fine pond in the background?

I missed the “M R Ducks” one when I was a kid. The ones I learned were:

F U N E M ?
S V F M
F U N E X ?
S V F X
O K M N X

and

A B C D Puppy?
S I C M P

Thanks for this, fun stuff.

shipwright – I’ve told the wife that I think these ducks are only “masquerading” as ducks. They are free to roam around all day (only put in the pen at night) and they refuse to get in the pond. Someone said that it was because they weren’t raised with a momma duck to show them how. I don’t know.
But for sure, these ducks are “chicken”!

Something to keep in mind for later, is that duck eggs make great omelets. A warning, though: sunny-side-up just doesn’t work (for me).

My former girlfriend and I used to have ducks. They tore up most of Dyanna’s flower beds, got into everything else, and left deposits everywhere. Foul fowl, ducks. Cute when they’re little, nasty when they get older. Great omelets, though.
