Project Information

this is a retirement gift i made for a friend, he came to the shop for a visit and was looking at some walnut limbs i had laying in there, he really loves wood, so i decided to make him a small divided box out of the walnut, and i also had some dogwood that came from his property, the dogwood tree was taken down when a tornado destroyed there home and land, it pretty much leveled all the trees, he gave me some to have milled up and i have most of the wood today…so the box is made of walnut with a inlayed band of spalted oak, and the bottom of the box is the dogwood with a wide stripe of walnut in the center, and the dividers in the box is wild cherry, finished with danish oil and several coats of Bri wax. thanks for taking a look, just as a side note, for those of you here who know me, i have been slowed down by the problems with my back, so my days in the shop have been limited, im trying my best to do as much woodwork as i can…otherwise you would see more work from me. grizz

Bob, from experience, I know he will cherish this box and proudly display it in their new home!

Sorry to hear about the back. I, too, know from experience how painful it can be.

As usual you have combined an unlikely group of woods to create a beautiful one of a kind gift. Don't think I have seen dogwood used before.

I for one have missed you Bob. Sorry to hear the reason.
This is another sweet combination of woods, Grizz style, and it works …... as do all the others.
You do have a knack for finding unlikely but interesting a woods and combinations.
Take care of yourself.

Grizz, I have found that there is no part of your body that is not connected to your lower back. Sorry for your misery. I was lucky. Got mine fixed 20 years ago and got my life back.

Nice basic design in your valet.
