Except for the aluminum hub, there is no metal in the helm. Its black walnut purple heart with oak dowels

-- I've cut it twice, but its still to short....

You going to shape it, or leave it flat? And is this going to be decorative or functional?

Definety going to shape it. I built it for my boat so its funional. 1 inch radius all around and Im open to ideas and suggestions…..but if that means is not a completed project and will be removed, I guess Ill leave it like it is ;-)
