Special heart

This was a special project for my mothers “big” birthday. As she is traveling it couldn’t be big, so instead of a box or anything I just made a plaque. It measures 16cm across and sealed with a shellac sanding sealer.
I then darkened the shadows and hollows with some paint making sure not to darken the higher areas to keep the highlights and have some depth to the carving.
It was finished off with three coats of wax, using a toothbrush for the carved areas. And then polishing the heart well for a nice sheen.
I was pretty happy with the end result but really wished I had more time. Just to tidy it up a little more in places.

Looks wonderful Theresa and I’m sure your mom was thrilled with it. It would also make a great valentines day gift.
