Hi there, been lurking around LJs for awhile now. This site has been a great resource for knowledge and inspiration. Thought it was time to post one of my first projects. I made a tongue drum for my 2 year old son as an Easter gift. Top is 3/4” purple heart with 1/2” cherry sides. Dimensions are 6×16x5. The tongues are 1.25” wide with lengths 4”-9”. I didn’t tune, but took material off the backs until each key resonated well. If I make another, I’d likely plane the top down to 5/8” for better resonance. The dovetails are hand cut ( hence the gaps). I loved working the cherry with saw/chisels.
Thanks for looking!
