Since I had some leftovers from my first cutting board, I thought I would try my luck a second time. This one turned out lighter in color.

That is beautiful.
Great job.

-- Bob, Western Australia, The Sun came up this morning, what a great start to the day. Now it's up to me to make it even better. I've cut this piece of wood 4 times and it's still too damn short.

Lovely piece. The wood was a great find … but you’re the one that saw the project in your mind’s eye. Way to go!

Thanks guys. I told myself I was going to try a juice groove on this one, but was too nervous about messing it up so I didn’t. I have have a bunch of this wood left so I think I might make at least one more and try adding the groove. Plus it will give me motivation to get my new router set up in the table saw wing that I made and start playing with the Incra Jig I picked up off craigslist. :)

I think Nikola Tesla would be proud. It looks like bolts of electricity shooting out from the center. Reminds me of pictures of his electric generator, with him standing in the middle. Cool looking board.

What kind of wood?

It is black walnut with the 3 strips of cherry running through it. The black walnut has sap and heartwood. Its the interface/transition between the two that makes it look like that.
