Tiger Maple and Wenge Jewelry Box

I ended up with a bunch of 1/4” wide x 1/8” thick pieces of wenge after a previous project. One of the nice things about working with boxes, is that even small pieces of wood can be put to good use. The strips were not quite wide enough for the box lid, but a scarfed joint centered over an intersection took care of that nicely. The trim on the box and the handle cross bars are also wenge.

It’s a beautiful box, well designed.

I think you missed an opportunity to pop that grain on the Tiger Maple.
Looks like you went the clear finish way. I would probably let some oils pop it, or dyes.
Then a shellac topcoat. I say this because just that little extra would make this an exceptional piece.

Very nice .

Very nicely crafted box. I particularly like the lift and drawer pull. Everything fits good so fine installation on the quadrant hinges which can be difficult. Good work on the interior as well.

Bob, this box has it all. Great design and execution. The wood choice is wonderful, and I like the inlays. The drawer solves the problem of access to the lower part of the box. The quadrant hinges are well fit and a good choice. The box is well finished outside and beautifully lined inside. The matching pull and lift fit with the design, and the contrasting corner splines finish off your great look of contrast and function. I don’t think you missed a single trick. Nice job of photography on top of everything else. Keep boxing and keep posting.

A very elegant box.. The design is very functional with the lower drawer and the contrast you have achieved with the handles is superb.
Thanks for posting this piece.
